The three approved injection sites
Semaglutide is a subcutaneous injection, meaning it goes into the fatty layer just under the skin, not into muscle. There are three recommended areas:

Ozempic, Wegovy, and compounded semaglutide all contain the same active medication and are all given as subcutaneous injections into the abdomen, front of the thigh, or back of the upper arm. Rotation works the same way for all of them.
What does differ is the delivery device and the dose schedule. Ozempic and Wegovy come in prefilled pens, while compounded semaglutide is often supplied in a vial that you draw up with a syringe. That changes the mechanics of preparing the shot, not where it goes. If you switch between products, your provider will walk you through the new device, but you can keep the same site rotation pattern you were already using.
How to rotate your sites
Injecting into the exact same spot week after week can cause lumps or hardened tissue under the skin, which can also affect how the medication absorbs. Rotating prevents this. You do not need to change the general area every week, but do move to a fresh spot at least an inch from your last injection.
